Fall: What is worth keeping?

Fall is upon us. What is worth keeping?
Hi Friends,
I made a decision. It wasn't easy, but it was the best decision for me. Some of you may know I have been doing Real Estate, in addition to running this business, since COVID. (I got my RE license after I had to close State of Grace doors temporarily during the pandemic.) I have had fun and learned A LOT, but I have decided to hang up my Real Estate Hat. After much consideration, I knew the decision was about taking good care of myself.
Here is what it boiled down to. (Hang in there, there is a point to this).
I can be good at something, but it may not be good for me. I always thought I "should" (there is that word again) do something if I was good at it. Well, that has completely changed for me. The question is, Is it good for me? The lifestyle a Realtor needs to adapt to (on call, fast paced, high pressure) not so much.
I can enjoy something (or parts of it), however, it is important to know when to walk away. Hanging on, again, because of all the "should's".
Having two careers, honestly, started making me go "hmmmm". Thinking I needed to, living in fear of one not succeeding. The truth is, I couldn't give 100% of myself to either business.
When I thought I would have time to breathe, a lead would come in. When I thought I could go on vacation, work would pop up. (Don't get me wrong, I was grateful for that).
The MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR. My nervous system was on high alert. Thinking about what I was supposed to be doing, feeling guilty if I wasn't doing the thing, feeling "less than" if either business was slow.
My nervous system regulation is more important. My passion (my wellness business) is more important. A balanced life is more important. So I am letting go. I am making the changes needed and trusting the process. I am stepping in fully to this healing and wellness world and am so thrilled about it!! Stay tuned for new things coming!
Which leads me to the Fall season. Which is, of course, about letting go. Take a minute to read on. Perhaps consider what this season could mean for you.
The Fall season:
• Element: Metal
• Yin Organs: Lungs
• Yang Organs: Large Intestine
• Emotion: Grief/Sadness
• Theme: Letting go, release, boundaries
• Climate: Dry
The deeper meaning of Fall is to take in what nourishes you, and release what you no longer need to carry. As in the Lungs taking in the breath and the large intestine eliminating waste.
Here are some tips for Fall:
• Emphasize nourishing, moistening foods and warm preparations, think cooked apples, soups, stews, root vegetables, sesame, honey and warming teas. (depending on the individual).
• Avoid raw vegetables.
• Keep neck and chest warm on chilly, windy days.
• Hydrate even when you're not thirsty in this dry season. Even better, make sure it is filtered water. (Reverse Osmosis is great). Be sure to add electrolytes. If you need recommendations, reach out.
• Connect with your breath. Start with this. Inhale to 4 or 5, and exhale to 5 or 6. Just lengthen in the exhale a bit. Repeat a few times to activate the Parasympathetic Nervous System. Another to activate the Vegus Nerve: Inhale twice through the nostrils, and exhale completely through the mouth.
• Spend time outside in nature. Deliberately slowing down your pace is a wonderful grounding practice.
• Begin turning inward. Summer is expansive and yang, fall is a transition to yin. It is a good time to simplify your schedule, establish routines, sleep a little earlier and create more quiet.
• Make room for grief. Grief is associated with the Lungs. Fall can be a time to acknowledge losses, allow emotions to move, journal, talk, breathe and make space for what matters.
• Practice letting go, but don't force it. Clean a drawer, release an obligation, establish a boundary, finish something unfinished. Simply ask: "What am I ready to carry forward, and what can I put down?"
What is worth keeping?
Remember to create safety and space so the body can decide what it is ready to release. Nourish, nourish, nourish!
